The Spread of Japanese Fashion

Firstly, this lecture will question “what is fashion?” We will then explore an overview of Japanese fashion, look at aspects of its influence outside Japan, and consider where it may lead in the future.

Mitsuhiro Kokita

Mitsuhiro Kokita was born in 1975. He graduated from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design (BA Fashion / womenswear) in 2002 and completed his MA (in Fashion / menswear) in 2004. He gained experience in exhibitions and shows at the Victoria & Albert Museum during his studies, presented a graduation show for press at the York Hall, a show at L'Oreal in Lisbon, and a show at the British Embassy in Japan. After returning to Japan, he worked as a design assistant for Masaki Matsushima. Designer of Untitled Men, 2006 – 2007; Designer of Ginza Ichibankan Pret-a-porter Line, with Junya Watanabe Man at the Comme des Garcons Planning and Production Department, 2008-2009. He teaches at Kyoto Seika University, Faculty of Popular Culture, Fashion Course.
