ADMISSIONS

Kyoto Seika University welcomes students from a range of diverse backgrounds, including many international students, which is one reason why our admissions system is not restricted by nationality or country of origin.
 
However, there are requirements for Japanese language proficiency and status of residence at the time of application.
For detailed information on application qualifications and procedures, please read through the application qualifications page and admission guidelines (only available in Japanese).
  • An international student at Kyoto Seika is defined as a foreign national or dual national that does not include Japanese nationality and who is expected to have the status of residence of "Student" at the time of enrollment.
  • Enrollment is in April.
  • Entrance examinations and classes at Kyoto Seika University are conducted in Japanese.
  • The Japanese language proficiency requirement must be met at the time of application for the entrance examination.
  • We do not accept research students.
  • The admission guidelines are written in Japanese. As Japanese language proficiency is required at the time of application, it is necessary to read and understand the admission guidelines in Japanese.

Admission Requirements for the International Student Entrance Examination

Prospective students must meet all requirements from (A) to (E) as of April 1, 2025:

A) Nationality

Foreign nationals expected to have the status of residence of "Student" at the time of admission (and dual nationals who do not have Japanese nationality)

B) Age

Individuals who are 18 years of age or older, or those under 18 years of age with university entrance qualifications as specified by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT)

C) Academic Background

Prospective students for which any of the following conditions apply:

  1. A person who has completed at least 12 years of formal schooling in one or more countries worldwide
  2. A person who has passed the academic qualification examination equivalent to the completion of 12 years of study in that country.
  3. A person who has an International Baccalaureate (diploma required/ only course results not acceptable), GCE A-Level (minimum E rating/2 subjects), Abitur (Germany), or Baccalaureate (France)
  4. A person who has completed a minimum of 12 years of study at an institution accredited by an international assessment body (WASC, CIS, ACSI)
  5. A person who has graduated from a high school or completed secondary education in Japan
  6. A person who has fulfilled university admission qualifications specified by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) other than those listed above (Please refer to the "University Admission Qualifications" portion of the MEXT website.)
  7. A person 18 years of age or older who has been individually screened by the university for eligibility and is deemed to have qualifications equivalent to items 1–6

D)Japanese Language Proficiency

Prospective students must fall under one of the following categories at the time of application:

  1. A person who has passed the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) N2 level or higher
    *The test must have been conducted in 2010 or later
  2. A person who has received a total score of 220 points or higher in “Listening and Listening-reading Comprehension,” “Reading Comprehension,” and “Writing” (with at least 25 points) on the “Japanese as a Foreign Language” section of the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (EJU)
  3. A person who has received a total score of 525 points or higher on the Japanese Proficiency Test (JPT)
  4. A person who has received a total score of 600 points or higher on the A-C level of the J.TEST (Practical Japanese Test)
  5. A person who has received a total score of 420 points or higher on the Business Japanese Test (BJT)

E)Academic Circumstances

  • Prospective students with the status of residence of “Student” must have a total attendance rate of 90% or more at the Japanese school they are attending at the time of application.
