Financial
Aid
1) UNDERGRADUATES:
In order to reduce the financial burden on international undergrad students,
Kyoto Seika University's tuition fees are lower for overseas students
than Japanese students. Tuition
Fee Reduction
International
students receive
an exemption equivalent to 30% of Seika's standard tuition fees. (This
includes a reduction provided by the Ministry
of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology).
Note: The above fee exemption is cancelled in the case of international students
who lose their "student" visa status subsequent to admission to the
university.
Current
Fees (as of April 2008)
In the Faculty of Humanities,
fees payable by overseas students in their first year, including
both Spring and Fall semesters, total 960,200 yen (including
200,000 yen entrance fee).
In the Faculty of Art,
first-year
fees payable by overseas students, (including
200,000 yen entrance fee), total 1,285,000
yen.
In
the Faculties of Design, and
Manga, first-year
fees payable by overseas students, (including
200,000 yen entrance fee), total 1,305,300 yen.

SCHOLARSHIPS
1) Kyoto Seika University Overseas Student Scholarships:
- Undergraduate
students (ryugakusei):
Grants of 30,000 yen X 12 (months)
- Masters
Program students (daigakuin):
Grants of 38,000 yen X 12 (months)
Note:
In the case of KSU Overseas Student Scholarships, priority is given
to students with demonstrated academic ability and commitment. It
is unusual for KSU scholarships to be awarded to first-year undergraduate
students, but they may be awarded to first-year Masters students.
2) Association
of International Education, Japan, Study Promotion Program
- JASSO

- Undergraduate

- Graduate
School 73,000 yen X 12
3) Other
Scholarships

For

2)
EXCHANGE STUDENTS
Students
enrolled at universities with which KSU has a current exchange agreement,
selected by their home instution for exchange at KSU, and accepted
by a KSU department, may be eligible for an Japan
Student Services Organization (JASSO) Student
Exchange Program Promotion Scholarship, awarded for six months,
which provides a re-location fee of 80,000 yen (reduced
in 2009; paid on arrival), and living allowance (80,000 yen per
month).
In each December, KSU informs JASSO how many exchange students are expected
in the coming year.
In January JASSO notifies us whether KSU has been allotted any
scholarships, and if so, we make the individual application(s) in February
(for first semester) or May (for second semester). Results
are announced in early March, and mid June.
To ensure fairness,
available scholarships are rotated around our partner schools.
Unfortunately, this scholarship will not be available for students
coming to KSU in 2010.
Another
possibility, for US students only, is the US-Japan
Bridging Foundation scholarship.
3)
RESEARCH STUDENTS / GRADUATE SCHOOL
If
you are a
prospective research student applying
through a Japanese embassy for a Monkasho
(Japanese
Ministry of Education, Monbukagakusho)
scholarship, you should inquire about making a formal enrollment
application to KSU at around the same time as applying for
the scholarship.(Such inquiries will be treated on a case
by
case basis).The deadline
for research student applications is May 31.
If
you simply
designate KSU as your first-priority
choice in your initial application to the Monkasho,
they will direct
your application
to KSU if
you pass the
Monkasho's initial screening. However,
the request for Seika's faculty recommendation would
then arrive just before or during our summer vacation,
when it is virtually
impossible
to formally
process
by the Monkasho's deadline.
