You need to provide a portfolio of art work, and pass an interview test. You must also take a TOEFL test and satisfy the committee members that your English is good enough for you to study successfully in Germany. After your exchange is approved by KSU, you need to take the following steps:

1) Fill out KSAD's online Application for Exchange Students (Seika is listed in the form now, as of June 13, 2006)
2) Prepare your portfolio (A4 clearbook, slides, or CD-ROM) with English captions
3) Write a letter of self-introduction ("letter of motivation") stating your purpose of study at KSAD.
4) Prepare a CV (curriculum vitae)
5) Get a transcript in English from KSU's Kyomu-ka
6) Fill the Application for Accommodation
(more information on housing here)
7) If you need to study German, check out this page on language classes for exchange students and fill out the application form here.

KSU's International Office will mail these documents to Kassel University (UNIK)'s International Office. When you have been accepted by KSAD they will send an Acceptance Letter and information package.

Exchange students do not pay tuition fees, but you will be required to pay a "Student Contribution" which covers an administrative fee and the NVV public transport ticket. Some of it covers the expenses of the Student's Union and the Studentenwerk (cafeterias, student accommodation, counselling and legal advice services).Paying the student contribution is compulsory for all students.Currently the student contribution is € 152.50 (about 24,000 yen). You can pay when you register at Kassel.

Health insurance is also compulsory. The student price for insurance is approx. 54 € (about 7,600 yen) per month .

Accommodation:

See Kassel's International Office information page on accommodation.
Apply through the office, using this application form.

Background information:
Most international students apply for a room or an apartment in one of the student halls managed by the Studentenwerk. Some of these halls are located on campus, while others are spread out over the city. Both single rooms and single apartments (with bathroom and kitchenette included) are available and prices range from 123 € (18,000 yen) to 365 € (52,000 yen). It is important to apply early, since there are not enough rooms in the student halls to accommodate all students.

Studentenwerk Kassel also offers a Service-pack for International Students. This includes a furnished apartment in one of the student halls, 120 lunch vouchers to be used in the cafeterias on campus, and personal assistance by a tutor to help you get through your first few weeks in Kassel. This costs 1,430 € per semester (about 202,000 yen) and must be paid in advance. Email: studwohnen[at]studentenwerk.uni-kassel.de

For more information, including descriptions and photos of your housing options, check out the Studentenwerk's housing website by clicking on 'Wohnen' on the menu bar. It's best to use Internet Explorer for this site. Also look for the map logo to change to English.

Ludwig-Mohr-Straße 1 is closest to the School of Art. Rent, including utilities, ranges from € 138,00 to € 149,00 per month.
