Process
overview: To apply for exchange at GSA, you must
first be selected by KSU's International Exchange Committee. You
need to provide a portfolio of art work, and pass an interview
test. You must also take a TOEFL
test and satisfy the committee members that your English is
good enough for you to study successfully in the UK. After your
exchange is approved by KSU, please prepare the following materials:
1) Fill out GSA's Application for Admission as an Exchange
Student
(first read their Application Guidelines)
2) Prepare your portfolio (a light A4 clearbook,
slides, or CD-ROM) with English titles/descriptions
3) Write a letter of intent stating your purpose
of study at GSA
(Describe your art & design interests, how
you will make use of this opportunity, and what you expect from
your
visit).
4)Get a transcript in English from KSU's Kyomu-ka
5) Get letters of recommendation from your teacher,
and head of department or from the International Office
KSU's International Office will mail these documents to GSA.
After you have been accepted by GSA they will send an Acceptance
Letter and information package

Accommodation:

tour here. You need to fill out application forms
provided by GSA (online here) to mail to the residence manager
at Margaret Macdonald
House.
When your application is accepted, the residence manager will
send you a package including a Lease Agreement,
to sign and return. You will need to pay a damage deposit (refundable)
of £100 (approx. 20,000 yen). Standard room rent is £72
per week (46,000 yen per month) or £78 per week for ensuite
(private shower/toilet). Electricity costs an extra £3-5
per week.Rooms are in flats (apartments) with shared kitchen,
toilet and shower facilities. The application deadline for accommodation
is July 1 (but sooner is better).More information at the FAQ
page.

expenses for one semester (not including accommodation): Around
£2,000 (approx 400,000 yen)
Cost of accommodation for one semester: Standard room: £758 per
term (150,000 yen)
Visa
application process: You do NOT need a visa to study in the
UK. But you will need to show the following documents to an Immigration
Officer at the airport when you first arrive in the UK:
1) a bank statement showing that your account
(or your parents’) contains enough money to cover your living
expenses while you are on exchange.
2) A letter from KSU's International Office certifying
that you are an exchange student, and that you do not
need to pay fees to GSA.
3) Your official letter of acceptance from GSA
4) A return air ticket, UK / Japan
5) A letter saying that you have accommodation already
arranged in Glasgow. (From GSA or KSU)
It’s a good idea also to arrange personal health insurance,
and travel insurance, before you leave.
