In the present era we are seeing major changes in areas such as international
politics, environment, family, education, and the rapidly expanding
media, and increasing interest in all forms of expression.
In this complex modern society it is no longer possible to understand the
whole through a narrowly-focused specialized view.
In April 2009, to provide a broader and deeper range of course material,
Kyoto Seika University restructured its Faculty of Humanities to create
a five-course department of Liberal
Arts.
Students
will select courses when about to start their second year, instead
of before entering the university.
This
new arrangement allows students to spend their first year exploring
their interests,
ambitions, personalities and skills, enabling them to select courses
better suited to
their individual identities later in their academic career.
