Center (Johokan)

Library
Seika's library facilities are open to enrolled students, and also the local
community. The Johokan (Information Center) opened in
second semester 1997, with total floor area of 4,746 square meters. It
currently contains approximately 225,000 books (capacity:
400,000), of which 175,000 are in Japanese, 50,000 are in other languages,
and over 1,000 are in Braille. The
collection includes over 1,700 children's books. The
library subscribes to over 600 periodicals, including 250 in other languages
(mostly English).
All material is arranged in Nippon
Decimal Classification. The majority of the manga collection
is now housed in KSU's International Manga Museum, downtown.
Internet/e-mail access is provided by 35 desk-top
computer terminals and 150 wireless laptops (available from the
main counter, for use within the Johokan). The catalog is now
online (OPAC) and can be accessed by four monitors closest to
the entrance, lF; three by the central readers' advice desk,
2F, and two in the AV area (B1).
Borrowing: Fifteen items may be borrowed concurrently,
for a period of up to two weeks. If a catalogued title is unavailable,
a reservation system can put you on the waiting list. Automatic
bar-code reader units (designed by KSU's Product Communication
Design Dept.) make borrowing simple. Returning items is also
easy, via an automatic system at the main entrance, functioning
24 hours a day.
